Weather happens …

A couple pictures from Thursday's storm and the aftermath ...

Several badd storms hit the area Thursday. The one that hit just after 3PM was the worst and that is when my power went out!

I’d been seeing tornato warnings and severe thunderstorm tickers traveling across the top of the TV screen for about a half hour before the storms originally hit Thursday afternoon …

Well … nothing ever happens here weatherwise … so I sort of ignored the warnings and went about my usual business …

I guess Thursday was the exception … weather happens …

It was like a monsoon outside for about 10-15 minutes. Sirens went off. Thunder clapped. Lightning lit the dark sky. And the wind blew very hard.

My cell phone didn’t stop ringing until it died … “are you ok?” … “go downstairs! The weather on TV shows tonados headed strait for Elmhurst” … ”is your electricity out?” … etc etc etc …

Well the cell phone finally died … so after what appeared to be the worst of it I headed for the car to charge the phone … I was soked to the bone before I got to the driveway LOL but it wasn’t all bad … I got a couple more calls while I waited for it to charge and I got to listen to a book on CD and watch the weather for awhile …

… hmmm … ya know … something you don’t think about until you are without electricity … a cordless house phone doesn’t work without electricity LOL it took me awhile to find the old corded phone in the bottom of a box in the back of a closet … and turning the bathroom light on when you go in … well it seems to be a habit … DOH … LOL

A couple pictures from Thursday's storm and the aftermath ...

What a nightmare. I sooo misssed my electricity!! LOL … showering in the dark … no blow dryer or flat iron … LOL …

Well … this experience sort of reminded me of camping … it reallly wasn’t so bad.

Of course I had to dump everything out of my freezer/fridge and into the garbage before I left for work Friday cuz everything was completely melted … the ComEd Web site said food would last 36-48 hours … pfffft … 24 hours and it was all warm in my freeezer … and I hadn’t opened the doors while the electricity was out!!!

The house felt like a Turkish steam bath with no fans and of course there was the complete and utter lack of sump pump in the basement which worried me! YIKES!

But that was all just small stuff.

If you can believe it, over 233,000 people in this area were still without power yesterday afternoon and I was one of them!!

Two days without electricity … makes you appreciate electricity a whole lot more!

I was very lucky … my trees lost a BUNCH of branches but none appear to have damaged anything in their descent. The sump pump is back on and chugging away.  I got to see a bunch of people who I have truly missed yesterday!! Sonja, Tony, Kelly, Diane, Beth, Rose, Linda, Kevin, Robyn … etc etc etc!!!

So … all-in-all … when everything is said and done … I was very very lucky.

It has been a very very verrrrry rainy August!!! The rainiest I can remember!!! I also got caught in a horrrible thunderstorm on the way back from Carbondale last weekend that SOKED me! LOL … and 2 weeks before that we got soked on the way down to Carbondale!!

The weather sure has been freaky lately! Maybe there is something to that global warming stuff?? I mean this is August not April!!!

Thank you evveryone who thought of me! I really am ok … doing fine!! xoxo

Happpy Saturday!
